Mark’s Blog

In this video I explain how Mastering Tough Conversations is a crucial skill in Developing and Maintaining a Respectful Workplace.

To cover all the issues I needed to cover, it ended up being 8 minutes and 46 seconds. It’s longer than I wanted but I think it moves along at a pretty good pace.

The main issues covered are:

We are having more and more conversations, with more and more people, and using more and more different channels of communication.

Some of these conversations are tough. There are 4 main types of Tough Conversations.

When it comes to Mastering Tough Conversation, it doesn’t matter if we’re talking about Leadership, Management, Customer Service, Employee Engagement, Team Building, Developing and Maintaining a Respectful Workplace or whatever.

It doesn’t matter because these are just the contexts in which Tough Conversations sometimes have to be had. Mastering Tough Conversations is a crucial skill no matter what the context.

There are 3 common mistakes we can easily make when having Tough Conversations (and indeed any type of conversation).

It’s easy to be ‘below the line’ when it comes to Tough Conversations. And typically, we’re in one of 3 states of mind when we’re ‘below the line’.

To Master Tough Conversations – and get the best possible result for all concerned – we need to get above the line. There are 3 main strategies to Mastering Tough Conversations and getting and staying above the line. They are:

1. Master the Conditions.

2. Master the Scripts.

3. Master the Deliveries.

Here’s the video. I hope you enjoy it.

All the very best and have a fabulous day,

Mark.
